I’m Losing It… Again

Happy new year and welcome to the blog!  If you’re like me, the last few weeks were filled with holiday celebrations, social commitments, travel, and in my case a birthday (hello 47!).  I don’t know about you, but I definitely had a harder time sticking to any kind of routine during this time and have a few new pounds that I’d like to kick out.  Now, while I feel like I look great at any size, I do know where I feel my best and I have a way to go to get back there.

A few pre-Pandemic years ago, I had amazing success on Nutrisystem and I know that it will work for me again.  I was already over 40 the first time I placed a Nutrisystem order, and over the course of about 5 months I lost 30 pounds- it really was the best I ever felt and my confidence was at an all-time high.  But, throw in a few years that included a global pandemic, a relationship collapse, a job change, and moving three times in less than a year… before I knew it, about 20 of those pounds have come back to roost.  After this most recent holiday season, I am at a place where I am ready to refocus.  My motivation is definitely driven by improving my health, but I also just don’t want to spend money on new clothes when I have a closet filled with pieces I love (I’m looking at you, Lilly Pulitzer sundress).

I am going to re-start Nutrisystem, and this time I thought it would be fun to share that journey with others.  Maybe you are in the same boat as me and have never tried Nutrisystem, or maybe you don’t want to but you do want to improve your health- hopefully there will be something of value for you here too!  For example, here are a few things that make a huge difference for me:

  1. Reducing my added sugar intake

  2. Replacing a big dinner with a much smaller one

  3. Tracking what I eat

  4. Reframing my mindset (example: “I GET to move” instead of “I HAVE to workout.” Believe it or not, this shift makes a difference!)

  5. Weight training! I am old-school and use my favorite workout DVDs!


In the past I have tried a variety of programs, diets and tools to lose weight and had the most success by far with Nutrisystem.  I have a few reasons why I think it works for me.  First, there is a lot of variety, and I have a hard time eliminating entire food groups from my diet.  Second, it is convenient.  Most Nutrisystem meals take minutes to prepare and I have found things along the way to make them even more enjoyable (for example, my go-to breakfast that I can’t wait to have again is Nutrisystem French Toast with a sprinkle of cinnamon, a tablespoon of natural peanut butter and some sugar-free syrup- it’s delicious!).  A third is that with Nutrisystem, I feel like I still get to eat all throughout the day.  I know intermittent fasting is hugely popular right now, and I have tried that (I did lose a few pounds!) but personally, it was hard to eat within a small time window.
